Joumana Joumana Joumana. Blessed are the billboard gods of Detroit, lining our skies with their faces and their promises of redemption. Joumana Kayrouz has long been an exciting face to gaze upon as we drive down the Lodge, drive home from the airport, or drive down the Boulevard. She’s always watching and we love it. Beloved bar venue Old Miami has shown their love for Joumana two years in a row by throwing the fabulous party House of 1000 Joumanas. This year had a packed house with lots of blonde wigs, voluptuous lips, and an opulent “Bring It On” attitude that could be felt by walking through the space. It felt like a local holiday. There were plenty of Joumana drag performances, games such as “Joumana or Janice the Muppet,” and Joumana look alike contests. All were merry and joyful in the light-hearted celebration of our adored Lebanese girlboss. Fun fact: if you were to fly to Lebanon and get off the plane, you might be confused and think “did I leave Detroit?” because you would see Joumana advertisements! She provides a familiar face for Lebanese immigrants here in Detroit. She has also been featured on Sam Richardson and Tim Robinson’s TV show Detroiters where she sports a black latex dress and cracks a whip exclaiming she’ll fight for you.
