Fiana (Syeda) Arbab is a Bangladeshi-Muslim-American transnational feminist organizer and advocate. Born in Japan and raised in the United States by first generation Bangladeshi parents, Fiana has spent her life engaging in ideas and spaces relevant to defining “home” and belonging. In her day job, Fiana is the International Financial Institutions (IFI) Advocacy & Gender Coordinator with Oxfam International's DC advocacy office, holding the World Bank (WB) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) accountable to economic and social justice. She graduated with a Master of Global Affairs (MGA) at the University of Notre Dame, concentrating in Sustainable Development and minoring in Peace Studies. While she served as the student associate for the Kroc Mediation Center, she co-created the Accomplice project, an initiative designed to identify and sustain decolonial efforts across the University of Notre Dame, with the goal of transformational justice and reparations. Fiana has served as a racial justice and community organizer in several capacities across the United States, and is connected to activist circles in Michigan, Georgia, and Indiana. As an undergraduate, Fiana was student body President of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She is a founding member and Board President of the Michigan Student Power Alliance. Fiana formerly served on several Michigan-based nonprofit boards including Women's March Michigan and a Michigan nonprofit dedicated to Asian American civic engagement and women's empowerment, called Rising Voices of Asian American Families.
