• “Rickski” (b.1981, Detroit, MI) is a self taught, observational painter who’s work combines figurative illustration and abstraction, while using various painting mediums andtraditional methods. His roots in painting/art making started many years ago as a young graffiti writer and has eventually evolved into a disciplined studio practice exploring oil painting on canvas to more recently working with watercolor/gouache. Ideas are primarily based from his street photography of bear memorials, old architecture, layers of buffed paint, forgotten places, decayed signage, lost items, and strange moments colliding by chance. Using these references as a starting point to explore time, relationships, memories, and modern symbolism through the acts of painting intuitively. Rick has exhibited at many local Detroit galleries in recent years and he’s currently maintaining a consistent daily art practice, in and outside of the studio.
